Typically for this high-quality brand, the set is made from solid Afromosia throughout and makes good use of the wood’s flowing grain and rich colour. The table has a draw leaf. Simple lines and refined design but with a very substantial feel.

Richard Hornby was a furniture designer in the 1960’s, his beautifully crafted furniture pieces were manufactured by Fyne Ladye Furniture of Bath and many were sold through Heals and Harrods of London.
The initial range of dining furniture that Hornby designed came out in 1961 , and was followed by other designs by him in the next 2 or 3 years . Although his later designs were also really stylish , it was the original models that predominately come up for sale today
The Afromosia tree, sometimes referred to as “African Teak” can grow up to 150 ft tall with a 3-6 ft trunk diameter. It originates from west Africa, mainly Ghana and the Ivory Coast. It is commonly used in boat building and furniture construction, as it is easy to work with both hand and machine tools. Sadly this wood is now on the IUCN Red List and classed as endangered due to a population reduction of over 50% in the last three generations. This has been caused by a decline in its natural range, and above all, human exploitation. All the more reason to treasure this particular piece of furniture.
